Farms Continue to be Dangerous Places to Work

by | Dec 18, 2023 | Newsroom | 0 comments

Farms continue to be dangerous places to work, and the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) believes that this is because risk in the farming workplace is not managed well.  When children are around the risk increases.

Some of the key risks include:

  • Machinery and maintenance on moving equipment
  • Workplace transport
  • Falling objects
  • Livestock handling
  • Chemicals
  • Falls from height
  • Respiratory hazards

How to Prepare for an HSE Inspection

The HSE usually offer a limited number of free training places to farmers in the areas where they will be carrying out inspections.

Training can be provided by Lantra and delivered remotely through an eLearning package when HSE are about to inspect in your area, but Vicky Anderson Training Ltd can give you that training face to face and ensure you are ready for that inspection.

Farmers in the areas selected for inspection are invited by letter by HSE when they are about to inspect in your area.

If HSE are about to inspect in your area the training is free, but you can be prepared and you’re your training with Vicky Anderson Training ahead of time. On completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate confirming that the course has been taken and completed.

Staying safe on farm is all about prevention. Farmers need to be aware of the risks in their place of work and know how they can minimise or remove that risk.
