📢  Important Changes Coming — Are You Ready?

Significant tax and employment updates are coming in April 2026.

Here’s a clear summary for business owners — plus how we can help.

📋  Making Tax Digital (MTD) — From April 2026

From April 2026, HM Revenue & Customs will require:

✅  Landlords

✅  Self-employed individuals

…with a turnover over £50,000 to comply with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD ITSA).

What This Means:

  • Quarterly digital submissions to HMRC.
  • Digital record keeping required.
  • Approved MTD-compatible software must be used.
  • End-of-year final declaration still required.

📅  If your turnover is between £30,000–£50,000, you are expected to join from April 2027.

⚠️  What You Should Do Now:

  • Review your bookkeeping systems.
  • Ensure your records are digital.
  • Check your current software is compliant.
  • Speak to us about transitioning smoothly.

💡  If we already complete your bookkeeping — we will contact you individually with next steps.

⚖️   Employment Law Changes — April 2026

Further employment reforms are expected to take effect, impacting employers of all sizes.

Likely areas include:

  • Expansion of Day One employment rights
  • Sick Pay from Day One of Employment
  • Changes to unfair dismissal rules
  • Flexible working reforms
  • Enhanced family leave protections
  • Increased compliance enforcement

You may need to:

  • Update employment contracts
  • Review staff handbooks
  • Amend HR policies
  • Ensure you understand new obligations

We can assist with reviewing your documentation and advising on compliance.

📈   New Minimum Wage & Living Wage Rates  — From 1 April 2026

Category Hourly Rate from 1 April 2026
National Living Wage (ag21 and over) £12.71 per hour
National Minimum Wage (age 18–20) £10.85 per hour
National Minimum Wage (age 16–17) £8.00 per hour
Apprentice Rate £8.00 per hour

What This Means for Employers:

  • Check and update payroll systems
  • Ensure all workers are paid the correct hourly rates
  • Factor the increase into staff budgeting and cashflow planning

💡  If we process your payroll, we will update the rates automatically — but it’s important to budget ahead of time.
